Toohey Lake Rustic Campground sits on the North Shore of Lake Superior where the pines are thick, the air is clean, and the silence has weight. We don't do Wi-Fi, mini-bars, or crowded rows of RVs. What we offer is simpler: a place to park your tent or rig, build a fire, and actually hear yourself think.
Located along The Grade in Schroeder — a short drive from Split Rock Lighthouse and the historic town of Two Harbors — our campground has been a quiet stop for North Shore travelers since before the North Shore Scenic Railroad carried its last passenger. The lake is right there. The trailheads start at the edge of the property. And the stars out here are something else entirely.
Whether you're hauling a full-size RV, rolling up with a backpack, or looking for a simple roof over your head — there's a spot with your name on it.
Designated tent pads nestled among mature white pines. Each site comes with a fire ring, picnic table, and easy access to nearby trailheads and the lake.
Gravel RV pads with room to spread out. No hookups — just the kind of rustic simplicity that makes you remember why you started road-tripping in the first place.
Basic but comfortable cabins with wood-burning stoves, sleeping lofts, and the kind of quiet that only comes when the nearest road is a mile away.
Schroeder sits on the edge of the Superior National Forest, and from Toohey Lake you're minutes from some of Minnesota's most unforgettable outdoor experiences.
The Superior Hiking Trail starts right out your door. From easy lakeside strolls to rugged ridge climbs, there's a trail for every pace.
Canoe, kayak, or just sit on the dock. Toohey Lake is calm and fishable, and Lake Superior's wild shoreline is a five-minute drive.
One of Minnesota's most iconic landmarks is just down the road. Climb the tower, explore the keeper's quarters, and watch the surge basin below.
Spring wildflowers, summer lakes, fall gold, and winter's crystalline silence. Every season paints the North Shore differently — and every season is worth a visit.
We've been coming to Toohey Lake for three generations. My kids bring their kids now. It's not fancy — it's real.
